Guns N' Roses covered Black Hole Sun at Slane last night in tribute to Chris Cornell

“This one’s for you Chris.”

LAST NIGHT, GUNS N’ Roses returned to Slane Castle for their first Irish gig in 25 years.

The 80,000 tickets were all snapped up just hours after going on sale last year, and despite it bucketing down earlier in the afternoon, the crowd was extremely enthusiastic.

Though the gig was all about playing the hits, GNR took some time to pay tribute to the late Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, who was laid to rest yesterday in Los Angeles.

They dedicated a performance of the grunge band’s classic Black Hole Sun to Cornell, writing on Twitter: “This one’s for you Chris.” The whole crowd sang along:

A live broadcast of the cover was watched millions of times on the band’s Facebook page, with fans saying it gave them “goosebumps”.

By all accounts, last night was the gig of a lifetime:

Good F’N night indeed. Don’t wait so long next time, fellas.
